What We Are About
|
|
On November 21th, 2001, we will start our journey around the world. After
two years of saving and planning, we have quit our jobs and put aside a year
of our lives to explore ten countries, surf countless waves, and indulge in
the beauty of life. Some have said to us that it is a "bad career move",
and to those of you who agree, we dedicate our website. After you see all
that we learn, experience, and enjoy during our travels, I think your career
ambitions may take a backseat to life. Remember, the straight path is not
always the fastest or most fun.
To our surfer audience, we hope our website inspires and reminds people that
being a good surfer is not only about surfing. It is additionally about
ascertaining harmony in one's surroundings and oneself. During our travels
we will give weekly updates on the cultures, environments, and surf scenes
that we discover.

Just yesterday I paddled out at my home break only to listen to
countless arguments and fights. The sun was shining and we had a solid
south swell. Nonetheless, the negative vibe was pervasive. I think we need
to open our eyes to cultures and ways of life beyond that of our local
community. Maybe this will help us rethink matters and also recognize how
fortunate we are.

With an education and professional practice in human
behavior and culture, Bryan Walker will act as a cultural interpreter and
reporter. |

The mistreatment of our oceans is at an all time high. As surfers we have a
responsibility to try to stop this. The oceans of our planet are
intricately interwoven. We cannot solely tend to our coastal regions. That
which happens overseas touches us.
 |
With an education in environmental
science, Bryan Behr will report on the state of the oceans, coastlines, and
environments that we encounter. International environmental awareness is
Behr's goal. Awareness is the first step towards prevention. |

Surf magazines are filled with exotic waves and incredible surfers. They
are an excellent source for inspiration. In fact, many of my travels were
originally inspired by an image of some exotic wave that I stumbled across
in a surfing magazine. However, surf magazines are not necessarily the best
source for travel plans. For example, I was shocked to find skyscrapers and
highways looming over Kirra Point, Australia. Where I had expected natural
beauty, escape, and epic surf, I found concrete, exhaust fumes, and
congested beaches. I guess things are not always what they seem. But on
our website they will be. We will show surfers a first-hand, real world
experience of the surf scenes we encounter. The intention is to give
surfers a better sense of what to expect if they chose to visit. We will
also share helpful travel tips that we learn.

As a veteran contest surfer
and all around friendly guy, Dan Mackowski will focus on the surf scene
reports. |

Why We Developed a Website
|
|
The year that we spend abroad is bound to be the time of our lives, however
we would also like it to be filled with purpose. That is essentially why we
developed a website. By sharing our experiences and perspectives, we hope
to inspire, expose, and educate others.
